University College / School of Letters and Sciences Convocation
Friday, December 18, 2009
6:30 p.m.
Wells Fargo Arena
Convocation is an exclusive ceremony that individually recognizes graduates from the School of Letters and Sciences. Graduates’ names are read as they cross the stage to receive personal congratulations and a memento from University College.
Tickets are not required for you or your guests, but we ask that you let us know if you plan on attending and if you will be bringing guests. Please RSVP through your MyASU account after you have applied for graduation. More information on applying to graduate can be found below. The RSVP system will record each graduate’s information, which will be used at the Convocation ceremony. You must RSVP by December 1, 2009.
All graduates should plan on arriving at Wells Fargo Arena at least one hour prior to the ceremony but must be there by 6 p.m. A cap, gown and tassel must be worn and can be purchased from the ASU Bookstore.
Diplomas are mailed to your home address currently on file with the university approximately 10 weeks after graduation.
Once you have RSVP’d through MyASU, University College will receive confirmation of your participation in the ceremony along with your degree information. When you arrive at Wells Fargo Arena on the day of the ceremony, you will check in at the East concourse and be given a personalized card. At the appropriate time during the ceremony, you will be asked to stand and proceed to the stage. As you approach the stage, you will hand your card to the announcer. When your name is called, you will walk across the stage and shake hands with Dean Frederick Corey.
Students must apply for graduation in the Graduation Office (SSV 140) or apply online at http://students.asu.edu/graduation by October 15, 2009, in order to avoid paying a late fee and to have their names printed in the Commencement and Convocation program (see Program section).
Students must apply to graduate with the Graduation Office in addition to submitting an RSVP for the ceremony through MyASU.
The University College Convocation program appears with the Commencement program. Names of students who did not apply by the application deadline (October 15, 2009) will not appear in the ASU Commencement and Convocation program.
If you want to participate in a University College Convocation held in the semester before you graduate, you are welcome to do so. Your name, however, will not appear in the ASU Commencement and Convocation program until the semester you actually graduate. August graduates’ names will appear in the December program.
Chappell Studios will take professional photographs of all graduates. Graduates will receive proofs and a price list 7 to 10 days after the ceremony.
Graduates may pre-register their email address with Chappell Studio:

We cannot reserve these spots in advance, but the arena staff would be glad to assist you when you arrive to best accommodate your needs.
