Bachelor of General Studies Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of General Studies degree at ASU requires 120 credit hours, with 45 credit hours of upper division—39 credit hours in the major (40 for freshmen) and 81 outside. Majors can take more than 39/40 credit hours in the major, but only 39/40 will count toward the degree. For more information, call (602) 496-0658.

Students will choose four (4) clusters and at least three (3) classes within each one. The clusters are:

  • Healthcare
  • Society and Mass Media
  • Special Event Management
  • Nonprofit Management
  • Meeting Planning
  • The Urban Experience
  • Leadership
  • U.S. Social Welfare System and Social Services
  • Criminology and Criminal Justice
  • Law and Criminal Justice
  • Science, Technology and Society

Students are also required to take ASU 101: The ASU Experience (for freshmen only) and COM 494: Society and the Individual, a capstone seminar that examines individual and societal forces on communication practice.
