Spanish courses at the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus serve to help students enrolled in ASU downtown programs enhance their knowledge of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture.

The downtown Spanish courses (SPA 101, SPA 102, SPA 201, SPA 202, SPA 313 and SPA 314) give students the opportunity to take risks and perform linguistic tasks successfully, gain self-confidence, rely on themselves and their classmates, develop their ability to create with the language, interact in real-life communicative situations, and gain greater insight into the varied world-view perspectives offered by the study of the Hispanic culture. All of these courses utilize state-of-the-art computer technology in the Language Resource Lab to facilitate students’ acquisition of a second language.

The Spanish faculty has also worked in partnership with the College of Public Programs, School of Social Work, the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication, and the Mary Lou Fulton Institute and Graduate School of Education to prepare their students to serve Spanish-speaking clients by creating professionally-focused Spanish courses taught on the ASU Downtown Phoenix campus. SPA 494 Spanish Writing for the Professions is being offered fall 2009.
