Broadly conceived, social science studies human beings and their interaction with the social environment. That interaction includes individuals as individuals, individuals in groups, individuals in institutions and intergroup relations. As a social science faculty, then, our broad focus is clear.

We incorporate the best structural features necessary for delivering a first-rate education to our students, as well as the flexibility required to adapt our curriculum to our ever changing environment.

We are a comprehensive social science faculty, although we abandon the single disciplinary approach embracing, instead, the interdisciplinary perspective. We believe the increasing complexity of social issues calls for a multidisciplinary lens which focuses on societal questions from multiple angles. This approach frees our faculty and students to pursue knowledge wherever that trail may lead them, avoiding the predictable constraints forced by traditional disciplinary boundaries.

This robust approach enables a scholarly environment rich in innovative interdisciplinary courses and programs and provides great synergy given our location on a burgeoning polytechnic campus, integrating technology throughout the curriculum. Our teaching, research and service activities are well served by our broad approach.
